Les Suites Hotel Review: a spacious apartment style experience in downtown Ottawa
An honest review of my stay at the Les Suites Hotel in downtown Ottawa
In the summer of 2021, I got married at the Ottawa Art Gallery and I wanted to stay somewhere convenient in downtown Ottawa where we could easily access the gallery. The Les Suites Hotel was right across the street and offered very spacious multi-bed suite style rooms with kitchens and laundry, which was exactly what I was looking for to have plenty of space to prepare before the wedding ceremony. This hotel is also popular with frequent business travellers who prefer to have a more apartment style experience when staying in Ottawa on extended work trips.
I booked a Premiere Executive King one bedroom suite directly on the hotel website myself and we were not in any way compensated by the hotel, so this is a completely independent review.
You can read a detailed summary of all my thoughts on our experience at the Les Suites Ottawa Hotel or you can jump straight to my final recommendation at the end.

Les Suites Entrance Lobby Area
There is a short term parking area right outside the lobby so that you can easily unload your luggage, there were lots of luggage carts available and we didn’t have to wait for one.
Once inside, there was seating around the window and only one person ahead of us in the check in line. We did have some confusion checking in as we thought we had pre paid online but it was only a deposit taken off, so we did owe more than we thought upon check in. I don’t think their booking website made that clear.
There was some limited Ottawa tourist information signage and a breakfast café, which was convenient but we didn’t try it since breakfast wasn’t included with our stay.
Everything in the lobby seemed clean.
Hallway and Elevators
The elevators were in good condition and worked fine, the hallways are seemed clean.
Premiere King Suite Entrance
The entrance area to our suite was quite standard with a closet with hangers, a long mirror and the door had safety info and standard locks. The carpet was clean enough and the suite smelled fine.
Premiere King Suite Living Room
The living room area was quite large, and separated into an eating area with a table and four chairs and more of a TV lounge area with sofa, chair and coffee table which also faced towards the balcony.
Kitchen Appliances and Amenities
The kitchen was well stocked, with standard appliances like a stove, oven, microwave and a dishwasher which was useful. There was also cutlery, plates and bowls, wineglasses and dish soap provided and an ice cube tray. Every appliance we actually used worked fine and the refrigerator was full size.
King Bed
The bedroom was pretty average in terms of décor and comfort, nothing memorable about it, the bed was average firmness, the curtains seemed to keep the room fairly dark. Overall not luxurious but seemed clean.
Office Area in Premiere King Suite
This suite also had an office area which would be good for business travellers or even as a separate room for a family with children. I like the separation and storage away from the main living space, with the desk, office chair, shelves and drawers.
For a large family, it would probably make more sense to get a second bedroom rather than an office, so just check which style of suite you want when booking. This room had a glass door to separate it from the living area, but it was not soundproof.
Balcony with views toward Rideau Centre
The balcony was fairly large and had nice views towards the Rideau Shopping Centre and downtown Ottawa. It was covered from rain and while there was no furniture out there, you could bring a chair out to have breakfast there. I think this is a nice feature, especially for a long term stay to be able to get fresh air. The railing and glass panels seemed safe and sturdy and we couldn’t directly access neighbouring balconies. This hotel really is in a good location, close to a lot of useful amenities downtown like the mall and transit.
Bathroom Area
The washrooms were again very average. Just standard sized appliances nothing luxurious but it all worked fine. Shower had average water pressure, towels were not super soft. It did come with the usual included toiletries and small hair dryer. We did have an issue with the toilet running but we didn’t bother to get it fixed because we were so busy with our wedding over the weekend.
There was also another small room with a washing machine, dryer and what I think was hot water tank. You could probably store luggage in there as well, it wasn’t really decorated as it was just a small utility room.
Les Suites Hotel Parking
The parking situation was fine, there was an underground lot you could move your car to once you had unloaded and we didn’t have any trouble finding or accessing it.
Final Recommendation:
Les Suites Hotel Ottawa Review
I found our stay at this hotel to be generally quite pleasant. The décor was modern, the hotel seemed clean, staff were mostly friendly and helpful.
We thought our room was accurately reflected in the pictures on the website and felt that we got what we intended to book, no surprises or missing or broken amenities or features.
Overall, we had a very successful stay. This hotel met our needs for a spacious room with a full kitchen and lounge area to accommodate multiple people getting ready for a wedding. The most positive aspects were the central location and significant room size. While the features were not luxurious, the price was very reasonable and everything was clean. I think this could be a good option for families, long term business travellers or other visitors who want a more apartment style experience on a budget in downtown Ottawa.
Bonus Stop: The Ottawa Art Gallery
Don’t miss the Ottawa Art Gallery, which is directly across the street from the back of the hotel. Admission is free and there are always new and interesting exhibits going on. They also have event spaces for conferences and weddings. I got married there!
